Dallas is famous for is its barbecue, the soap opera "Dallas", the football team Dallas Cowboys. The city is also famous for its oil and financial center, and for being the city where the assassination of President John F. Kennedy took place.

History Of Dallas
In 1778, the Frenchman Athanase de Mezieres visited the Dallas area. In 1839, the lawyer John Neely Bryan came to the Dallas area and started to trade with Native Americans and settlers. In 1841, Dallas was founded. John Neely Bryan sketched out a town with 20 streets. In 1846, the first hotel was built, and a school and a church opened, and the town had both doctors and lawyers. In 1849, the first newspaper, The Cedar Snag, later renamed The Dallas Herald, was published. In 1850, The first factory was built and there were 430 people living in Dallas.
In 1855, European artists and musicians came to the Dallas area where they established a base for their work. (Todays neighborhood Deep Ellum, and lower Greenville Avenue). In 1856, Dallas was formally incorporated as a city. In 1860, a fire destroyed most of the buildings in the business district. In 1868, the first bank was established. In 1871, the railroad came to town and the first fire company was organized. In 1872, more than 7000 people were living in Dallas. In 1874, gas lamps began to light the streets. In 1880, the first telephone came to Dallas. In 1885, The Dallas Morning News was founded. In 1888, the Dallas Zoo opened and it was the first zoological garden in the state of Texas. In 1889, the first electric streetcar began its service. In 1894, Parkland Memorial Hospital opened. In 1899, the streets was paved with asphalt and with bricks.
In 1905, President Theodore Roosevelt visited Dallas. In 1908, the Trinity River reached a depth of 52.6 feet and five people died and 4000 were left homeless. In 1912, the Adolphus Hotel was built. In 1921, the Majestic Theater was built. In 1923, the first automatic traffic signal in the USA were installed in Dallas. In 1930, oil was discovered and the oil boom started. In 1934, Bonnie and Clyde were buried in Dallas. They were killed by the police in Louisiana. In 1935, parking meters was installed. In 1942, Ford Motor started to build jeeps and military trucks in Dallas. In 1943, the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School was established. In 1957, the largest wholesale trade complex in the world, the Dallas Market Center, opened. In 1960, the professional football team Dallas Cowboys was formed. In 1963, 22 November, the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, was assassinated on Elm Street. In 1974, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport opened (DFW International Airport). In 1978, five episodes of the soap opera "Dallas" was shown on television. "Dallas" was the first prime-time soap opera. In 1985, The Bank of America Plaza opened. In 1987, Annette Strauss became the first woman elected Mayor of Dallas.
