History Of Kansas City, Kansas

In 1809, the first white settler of Kansas City, Kansas, Louis Bertholet built a cabin. In 1831, Moses Grinter, who also was one of the earliest permanent white settlers in Kansas City, Kansas, established a ferry on the Kansas River on the old Indian trail by the Kaw's water. The town of Wyandot was incorporated in 1858. It was located in what now is the downtown area of Kansas City, Kansas. The Central school building was erected in 1867. Kansas City, Kansas was formed in 1868. In the 1870s, after the civil war, many black persons came to the city. They were called the "Exodustors" who migrated from southern states. In 1886, the cities of Wyandot, Armourdale, Armstrong and Kansas City, Kansas, were consolidated into one city called Kansas City, Kansas. The city had nine schools in 1886. In 1909 the City of Argentine became part of Kansas City, Kansas. The City of Rosedale was added in 1922. Kansas City Kansas Community College was founded in 1923 as part of the Public School System of Kansas City, Kansas.
