History Of Newark
Newark was founded in 1694 by Scots-Irish and Welsh settlers. In 1765, Newark Academy came to the city. It was moved from New London in Pennsylvania. In 1812, methodists built the first church in Newark. In 1837, the railroad came to the city and in 1855, the first bank was established. DuPont facilities opened in the 1940's and, in 1951, the Chrysler Corporation constructed its Newark Assembly Plant.
