History Of Aurora
Aurora was founded in 1891, but the original name was Fletcher. The name came from the businessman Donald Fletcher. 16 years later, in 1907, it was decided to rename the town to Aurora. Aurora was selected, in 1921, as the site for Fitzsimons Army Hospital to treat the men affected by mustard gas and tuberculosis during World War I. In 1929, Colorado's Secretary of State recognized Aurora as a city. In 1955, President Dwight D. Eisenhower recovered from a heart attack at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora.
