History Of Montgomery
In 1716, the Scots trader James McQueen settled here. He was the first permanent European settler in the Montgomery area. The city was incorporated on December 3, 1819. The state capital moved from Tuscaloosa to Montgomery, on January 28, 1846. In 1886 Montgomery became the first city in the USA to install city-wide electric street cars. On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her bus seat to a white man. The Montgomery Bus Boycott started after that incident. The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a protest campaign against the racial segregation on its public transit system and Dr. Martin Luther King led numerous of non violent protests.
